I’ve been a fan of Chuck Palahniuk ever since I found out that the man responsible for Fight Club had written other books. Typically I stumble across his new releases by pure chance, so it was a big change for me to actually spend a few long months in anticipation of his latest novel Snuff. Like Rant and Haunted before it, Snuff does not disappoint.

It’s amazing how a little subtraction can change things. A BLT with the bacon subtracted is taste bud cancer. A car with the wheels subtracted is a hunk of steel, a hunk of steel that can double as shelter during the zombie invasion. A spider without a web is a tarantula.

So The Webby Awards are in the public voting phase. I wouldn’t know anything about them, but a couple of the sites that I visit on a regular basis were nominated and have their “vote for us!” banners up. I figured that if some of the sites that I like were nominated, there was a good chance that I’d find some other interesting sites by browsing through the voting section on the Webby website voting page. The first issue of Richard Stockton OVERDRIVE (The caps are necessary to stress the extent of the overdrive. It’s similar to the Millennium Falcon’s hyperdrive.) is up on an Internet near you. (Read more…)

Some of you may know Andrew Mathas, the lovable Internet personality behind several videos making fun of how easy it is to misunderstand some songs’ lyrics. His first video, and probably the most well-known, lampoons Fall Out Boy. I know you’re thinking, “how can the serious, heart-wrenching lyrics of Fall Out Boy be taken lightly?” This is how.
He recently posted a challenge to the Internet community on his blog. If 250 people leave comments, he’ll play through every Guitar Hero game in a row on expert mode for charity. All the money he raises will go to the Child’s Play charity. And if he manages to raise $500, he’ll play through Rock Band on drums. So go comment on his post HERE and let’s get the kids some games.

Time.com just came out with their first ever blog index. Thefhiz isn’t on the list, so I’m debating how accurate the thing is. I bet some of the sites don’t even exist.

Keeping with my music theme over the past couple posts, here’s a site for people who like to say “mixtape” but with Jello in their mouthes. Muxtape.com let’s users upload twelve songs to create their own mixtapes, which seems like a good idea until you take the users’ music tastes into consideration.

According to the Geeks of Doom site, Troy Duffy (foolishly self-destructive writer/director of The Boondock Saints) was let out of Hollywood purgatory and now has a sequel to The Boondock Saints in the works–The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day. (Read more…)

I always hated people who make alliterative jokes in seemingly eye-catching titles. Oh wait…
Anyhow, I’ve been (hard?) at work on a little Fhiz side project that I’m announcing: the Fhiz Forums. It’s a place where anyone can sign up and post whatever the hell is on their mind and get snarky responses from me and other members. Check them out here.

Or here.
(Personal note: Isn’t it sad as hell that I need to use FireFox simply because it’s the only browser that I know that has a built in spell-checker?)
Also, we’ve got a new writer for the main page who goes by the enigmatic screenname look_i’m_liam. He’s a veteren member of the (dreadful) NJ pop-punk scene (bunch of cheap MTV wannabe hookers … but I digress) but nonetheless has a good sense for music and will be bringing us reviews of shows, bands and albums you’ve either never heard of or never thought about in twenty years.
Thats it for now. Look for liam’s writing and go check out the forums. Right here.
