Sully entered the poker room where everyone was already sitting at the table waiting for him. This wasn’t any normal poker room. This game room had to meet the needs of the special clientele; there was an entourage for entertainment purposes—complete with stage and pole. The scantily clad dancers were pumping the gentlemen up for the competition.
“Sully, get over here so we can get this game started. You’re always late.” blurted one of the players at the table.
Beside him, another player scoffed and rolled his eyes in Sully’s direction. “Like it matters. We’re still waiting for Charlie anyway.”
“Sorry, sorry.” Holding up a hand to pacify the other players, Sully approached the table, his eyebrow raised in surprise as he caught sight of the man sitting in what was traditionally his lucky seat. “Looks like I lost my lucky seat.”
“The newcomer.” announced Austin, who always sat to the right of Sully. He gave no more of an explanation than that.
“Name’s Rex. Looks like you’re going to have to find another seat.”

Let me preface this by saying I actually haven’t seen this movie, so for all I know it could be a brilliant work of cinematic genius, but that really isn’t the point.
I’ve been hearing about this movie for a while, mostly on sites like Digg, but I never really paid much attention to it. So it came as a bit of a surprise when I saw a trailer on TV and realized that it was in theaters already. My first reaction upon seeing it was that its timely release was just in plain bad taste. Now, I’m all for free speech and the freedom to criticize, but the fact that someone is releasing a movie that is supposed to be so anti-Bush while he’s still president just seems a little tacky. As much as you might hate the man and disagree with the direction he’s taken the country, shouldn’t it be a manner of respect and good taste to wait to put out such an openly critical movie until he’s atleast out of office in a few months?
Not having seen the movie myself there is only so much I can say, but I’m curious to know: how do you feel about the release time of W? Do you think it’s appropriate or tacky that it was released now? I’m eager to hear reasoning from both sides of the aisle on this one, but please keep your comments intelligent and respectful.

Burial at Sea
Slip slithering my Boston Wailer, tap dancing
the swells awake, I sing a psalm I don’t know.
The murk motion mirrors the bay’s bridges,
and I’m onward toward the oceans…all of them.
I remember when our Father wrote the sequel.
It reminds me that bumper stickers never shut up:
“W ‘04” “Honor Student” and that fucking plastic fish.
I ride in on the horizon’s tail, north, under specs of fire
Vertically certain, but when the mast bumps and the
compass jumps, I go full wind and speed,
like chasing the sun as it rises behind.
I drive too far ahead of the curves to allow
followers. I can’t handle any extra gusts from
the Bicycle Pump. I can’t make my chop sticks pick rice clumps.
The canvas laughs and claps with each pushing breeze,
I never became that artist I said I’ll… that course I set,
was the worst yet. Eggs don’t float in water, even
in the salty bay’s where it’s too wet to weave baskets.
Still I’d throw all the babies in the bay and watch
only the rotten floats. Is there any reason to save the few?
It’s like pulling the web of foam from the surface.
It’d probably leave cracks like the spread of
lightning does just before the clouds rub violently.
Storms roll in like sheep dogs for the shore, but
one black sheep sets anchor past the bridge and writes
an ode to MYself that withstands the heady swells.
When the Boston floods we go down like all good eggs will.

The blood of nations is no longer red as most people may believe. Over 66 years after a truly devastating attack, America still bleeds. The Arizona rests in a harbor that was once known for oysters bearing the beauty of the pearl: though it does not rest peacefully. There is still a remittance of blood from the vessel that all Americans should be acquainted with. The beauty that once was present has now, for more than half a century, been replaced with infamy. As servicemen are forever entombed in the depths, soldiers still fight to prevent a reoccurrence of this incident and preserve the freedoms of a our country. Are not the followers of Islam, the Arabs, the Koreans and the Indians made from the same flesh, blood and bone as us? Perhaps… But it’s this black blood that divides us. There is fortune in the blood of nations and sorrow in the eyes of God. Whichever God you call your own, He cries while viewing his children kill each other. Yet His ominous presence cannot prevent the desire for power and wealth. It is no longer the case of blood for oil, for the blood that still leaks from the U.S.S. Arizona IS oil.
There is no stopping the greed of nations, but one day the Arizona will stop bleeding just as the earth will be completely drained and nations will be in need of blood transfusions. On that day let us pray that God’s hand, the one that holds love and compassion will save those worthy of His grace. But if He smites us all, let it not be a surprise, for everything that He has intended to teach us has not yet settled in the depths of our consciousness and we will be forced to lay in this dark resource. With the hopes that all men awaken from this dream of conquest, let us sleep for now above the black blood that is the cause of worldly terror.

When it comes to picking up new books, it’s the title that attracts me more than anything else. You could hand me a detailed manual on how to properly pop pimples, and if it has a snazzy, clever title I’ll give it a fair shot. It was my attraction to witty titles (influenced only slightly by my love for any book with an obnoxiously colored cover) that drew me to Brock Clarke’s An Arsonist’s Guide to Writer’s Homes in New England. After all, writers? Good. Fire? Very good. Property damage in New England? Fantastic! From where I stood, trying to decide between buying the book and spending what little money I had on food, there was only one logical choice.

(Video temporarily removed because it vanished from youtube)
When I first caught wind of the Heinz Mayo gay kiss commercial controversy, I was understandably intrigued. A mayo commercial featuring a gay kiss that received so many complaints about how racy it was that it needed to be pulled from the airwaves? Surely I was in for a treat! So imagine my surprise when I finally tracked down the offending advert (presented here courtesy of this crazy little website called “youtube”) and actually watched it. (Read more…)
